A Lone Dingo moving stealthily and confidently across the vastness of the outback, independant of pack affiliations, in charge of his own destiny. Anyone who has caught sight of such a figure or heard his mournful howl at night cannot help but be filled with admiration for this desert survivor. The Lone Dingo seems to symbolise what so many of us are seeking when we head outdoors. Isolation, intamacy with the environment, a simple existence, a better understanding of ourselves; the motivation behind so many of lifes journeys. Welcome to the world of Lone Dingo. WHAT IS LONE DINGO? Lone Dingo is a modern, technical, independant Outdoor & Travel store in Alice Springs, Australia. It opened for trading in 2001. Our aim is simple: 1) assist customers to select the right gear for the job & make the experience enjoyable (forget the hard sell, selling up, hounding customers for a sale; we leave that to the city stores) 2) keep prices tight; we pride ourselves on being price competitive with any store anywhere in Australia. A TECHNICAL OUTDOOR STORE IN ALICE SPRINGS? In the outback bushies use canvas swags and cast iron camp ovens right? That's the stereotype but not all explorations are possible in a four wheel drive vehicle, adventurous types also like to explore places you can't get a vehicle to. That's where Lone Dingo comes in. Whether its on foot, bicycle, camel, horse or motorbike, when the track ends and the adventure starts you're going to need good quality lightweight gear; like what we stock at Lone Dingo, not cast iron camp ovens. In fact the type of gear we stock is pretty much suited to travel and outdoor pursuits around the globe. DON'T YOU FIND IT HARD TO COMPETE WITH THE CITY STORES? No way. We use our remote location to our & our customers advantage. We are an independent business, we don't need the marketing machine provided by a franchise, this means we are not forced to carry the brands the chain headquaters have negotiated a deal with. We handpick the brands that are best at what they do, iconic brands like Scarpa, Mont, The North Face, Tatonka, Black Diamond, Thermarest, Camelbak and the list goes on. We stock gear that works for our region & similar regions around the world that have stinking hot summers & chilly winters. Being a family owned business we don't need to generate huge profits to pay the management board, we keep it modest & this allows us to keep our prices real. Also, our overheads are lower than in the city. This enables us to be very price competitive. We don't worry about what brands the store down the road has; there isn't one. We just stock what we think is right & remain loyal to our customers in providing the service thay need & expect. Basically we want you to enjoy the outdoors as much as we do. |
