ULW - SUGGESTED GEAR LIST - Revised for 2010 |
|
Here is a suggested list of gear that would enable a hiker to enter into the wonderful world of ULTRA light weight hiking and camping. The basic idea of ULW (Ultra Light Weight) bushwalking is to reduce your equipment down to the most minimal size and weight possible, generally making for an easier and more enjoyable walking experience. By sacrificing the “Luxury” items, ULW enthusiasts are able to move away from slow & exhausting walks with massive backpacks. For this list we set our selves the task of having enough gear for a 3 day walk in summer without exceeding 5kg. All the gear used in the list are off the shelf items. |

NOTE: The total weight listed here is what’s known as the Base Pack Weight. This does not include what’s often called Consumables, things like food, water and stove fuel. Obviously these are also crucial to any extended bush walk and can weigh quite a lot. Don’t forget to add the weight of these to get your total pack weight pack. Here is a quick guide to help calculate it: WATER - 1L of water weighs 1Kg. FOOD – Allow for about 750 grams of food per day. METHO – A Trangia stove holds about 30ml of fuel. It often takes all of that to cook one meal. |
